Did You Fail or Where You Disappointed With The Outcome?
Sometimes, you just need to be grounded in reality and recognize that it actually was a success.
Hello Creatives!
As we talk about failure this month, think about all the times you may have thought you failed and what you may come to realize is that you didn’t.You were filled with disappointment that the outcome wasn’t what you expected?
Being a creative is filled with so many of these moments. We come up with these amazing ideas, work hard to execute them and then crickets... It’s not received the way we would have wished, the return on investment is low and we start to question “Where did I go wrong?”
The Creative Edit has been one of many examples for me. I’ll be real, transitioning to Substack has been such a humbling experience. I spend hours (dramatic voice) crafting these emails, just for Substack to tell me it’s a 3 minute read 😑. And truthfully, my newsletter audience is small and always has been.
In being in business, the messaging has always been to “go big” in order to be deemed as successful and if my stats were used to evaluate that, I’d definitely be a failure.
But my truth is that I didn’t fail, I’ve built a true community. Each week, when I come in and prepare to write the next email to see that majority of you read these words, my heart is so full. It means that what I’m creating is being seen by the people who it was made for and that it resonates because you continue to come back. That’s how I define success, aligning with my values of intention and community (let me wrap this email up, my eyes are sweating).
So before you go looking at your creative journey as a failure, I want you to recognize that you may have not measured up to society’s expectations, but in what ways have you aligned with your own?
Your Creative Guidance This Week
The consequence of connecting your worth to the mistakes you’ve made along the journey keep you further away from the destination. Give space for the feelings that are there and let it guide you towards evolution. How are you creating space to reinvent yourself as a creative?
